Dobson Ice Arena Ice Slab Pour

A major milestone for a community landmark.

Last Thursday, the Hyder McHugh team completed the ice slab pour at Dobson Ice Arena in Vail, marking an exciting step forward for a facility that means so much to the local community.

The pour included 300 yards of concrete placed over 10 inches of sand, multiple layers of vapor barrier, 4 inches of insulation, a hefty dose of rebar, and more than 14 miles of heated and cooled floor tubing. Completing a pour of this size in the heart of Lionshead Village during the busy summer season took careful planning, strong coordination, and a team that was ready to adapt when an I-70 closure delayed the start.

Next up: the slab’s full 28-day cure, followed by continued work on rink-area equipment, devices, finishes, and painting as the project moves closer to substantial completion this fall.
