Two Elk Restaurant

This iconic 34,000 square-foot restaurant sits atop the China Bowl in the Vail ski area at an elevation of 11,000'. Destroyed by eco-terrorists in an arson fire in 1998, we had the distinction of building both the original structure as well as the resurrected building.

Located 45 minutes from the nearest paved road in a location that records snowfall ten months of the year, the logistical and scheduling challenges we faced were numerous and complex. Intensive pre-planning and skilled execution during construction — including our personal inspection of each Douglas Fir trunk column prior to its shipment from Oregon — created a masterpiece enjoyed by skiers around the world.
