Every month we feature a different past project to help you learn (or remember!) more about Hyder’s history and the great projects we’ve been a part of! 10 years ago we completed this $8 million on-mountain restaurant on Vail Mountain for Loyal Customer Vail Resorts (95 total projects!).
The 10th Restaurant
Situated at the heart of Vail Mountain, The 10th is a 250-seat ski-in and ski-out fine dining restaurant overlooking the expansive Gore Range and Vail’s Look Ma run. The name is their homage to the legendary soldiers of The 10th Mountain Division and the veterans of that great generation. The building includes high-end interior finishes, extensive millwork and stone throughout the interior and exterior, an under-lit granite bar top, a massive 80’custom fireplace, and a state-of-the-art culinary kitchen.
The on-mountain location of the restaurant made construction logistically difficult. The team mobilized on site to find nearly 10’ of snow covering the foundation; spring blizzards initially hindered the schedule. Delivery of product and manpower to the site was a day-to-day balance with the weather conditions, tourists and mountain operations. However, the project team completed the restaurant ahead of time, allowing Vail to open on December 1st, two weeks before the official grand opening.
