Director of Operations

Scott Miller

Scott is responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the company. He monitors the progress of every project, providing oversight from conception to closeout. Scott is in communication with all project leadership to ensure milestones are being met. His experience and leadership are well suited to Hyder’s diverse clientele and project types.

Scott has been with us for 25+ years (his entire professional career). He started with the company’s internship program through the University of Colorado at Boulder. After graduating with a degree in Architectural Engineering from CU, he accepted a full-time position. He spent the bulk of his early career in the field working on Hyder’s most complex and challenging projects. Over the years, he developed through the ranks, holding just about every position in operations, before becoming the Director of Operations.

“Starting with shop class in 7th grade or maybe even with Legos before that I was obsessed with building things. In high school, I took a couple of years of architectural drafting and design classes. My teacher at the time recognized that I had more of an analytical brain and suggested engineering. My summers in college were spent working for the City of Boulder Watershed as a laborer and heavy equipment operator. Somewhere in there, I decided I wasn’t built to sit behind a desk all day as an engineer and changed my focus to construction management. I got lucky my senior year and got an offer for an internship with Hyder. Six days after graduating college I started at Hyder and 25 years and counting here I am.”

BE A GREAT BUILDER

“It’s tough to pick just one because they are all so important to what we do every day. If I had to choose one it would be ‘Be A Great Builder.’ Before I was Director of Operations, I spent my career on some of Hyder’s most challenging projects. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than walking away from a tough project knowing that we gave it our all and having a client happy with the outcome. Now that I am Director of Operations, I still get excited when we get a new challenging and unique project. I can’t get enough of building cool projects.”

Life Outside Hyder

“I am a general contractor of the outdoors. Mountaineering, hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, skiing, fishing, paddle boarding. I grew up with the outdoors in my life; our family trips growing up were backpacking and it has stuck with me ever since. My wife Michelle and I met a year out of college and got married a few years later in 2001. She is an architect and started her own practice not long after we got married. We share the common philosophy of work hard play hard. Our two daughters, Morgan and Maisie, are a reflection of this. Maybe a little begrudgingly when it comes to a long tough hike or a sub-zero ski day, but they are getting there!”
