Columbine Valley, CO – Think Colorado and you think Rocky Mountains, rugged outdoors and a certain brand of beer. But the clubhouse at Columbine County Club wasn't exactly delivering a Colorado experience. We're not sure about the beer part, but the club was definitely missing out on being a true social hub and a proud architectural landmark.
That all changed with this new clubhouse. It boasts a slew of amenities, including a state-of-the-art fitness center that includes a spa and physical therapy facilities. The pool has been renovated, also.
"Our golf course is phenomenal, but to really continue forward you need more," said Michael Bratcher, the general manager. "Members expect the best of everything."
And this new clubhouse delivers, with a style that celebrates its surroundings. The previous clubhouse had more of a Colonial feel, and its interior was stifling, said Robert Yager, principal of Marsh & Associates, the architectural and design firm. Club members wanted a rustic feel, with old-world chateau-like charms, Yager said.
Yet they also wanted a host of indoor/outdoor features because of the many sunny days the region offers and the members' zeal for outdoor activities. That can be a tough challenge, because rustic designs normally call for smaller openings, Yager said. But with the help of the club leadership, he created the character the club wanted. He used materials such as heavy timber and native sandstone, but also allowed for expansive glass features and open spaces that flowed from the interior to the exterior.
"We wanted a Denver influence, but that doesn't mean a log cabin." Bratcher quipped.
The result, Yager said, is a clubhouse with an old-world look but a modern, contemporary feel. In short, it's a winner.
What the judges said: "This majestic clubhouse will make the membership proud of its new home. The incredible craftsmanship is felt in every room. The team did an impressive job, while keeping in mind the functionality of the building." - Frank Benzakour
